An Iranian deputy minister was shot dead, apparently by an unidentified passenger, Sunday night, Iranian media reported.

Rahmat Abadi, the deputy minister of industry, mines and commerce in charge of parliamentary affairs, was shot in the head and chest as he was driving in Tehran.

It was the second murder of a government official in the past week. A gunman killed a state prosecutor near the border with Pakistan last Wednesday.
