Turkish anti-Israel fans failed to unnerve Israel’s ice hockey team, which won the Group B U-18 World Championship that was played on Turkey’s home ice.

Turkish fans tried to upset the Israel team by unfurling a banner referring to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s outburst against President Shimon Peres in Davos in 2000.

Israel went on to win by a 6-1 score after having defeated Ireland in a lopsided game that ended up 16-2.

After knocking Turkey out of the competition, Israel dumped South Africa into second place with a  3-1 victory for the championship.

The victory moves Israel up to the Group A category in next year’s games.
