The CEO of Israel Railways, director-general Boaz Tzafrir, has resigned from his position after spending five years leading the railway.
Tzafrir first announced his intention to resign in April of this year, saying he wished to return to the private sector.
“I had the privilege of serving in a complex and challenging role, and I am grateful for the opportunity given me to do so,” Tzafrir said in his statement announcing his resignation at the time. “I feel that I personally have completed most of the tasks I set myself. This involved dealing with daily difficulties and challenges. The goals were reached thanks to remarkable teamwork on the part of many people in Israel Railways.”
Tzafrir thanked Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz and the company’s board of directors for their support “along this challenging road,” adding that he was “happy and proud” that Israel Railways is a “socially aware, transparent, highly professional company that is service-oriented.”
Israel Railways went from decades of losses to two successive years of net profit under Tzafrir’s leadership, according to the Globes business news site.
Deputy director-general Benny Lavie has stepped in to fill the post, Israel Railways announced Tuesday, pending selection of a new CEO for the railway.
