The city of Jerusalem is planning a major “facelift” for an abandoned Arab village situated on the outskirts of the capital.
The village of Lifta is sadly neglected, its once-beautiful stone homes empty, with hollow-looking spaces providing ample space for spooky shadows that welcome the photographer’s lens.
But one can see from the layout of the village and some of the landscaping that still remains that it must have once been a lovely place with plenty of potential to resume its rightful place in the city – and the Jerusalem municipality clearly agrees.
The city plans to build villas – single-family homes – and a shopping mall in the village. The plans, announced this past week, are in the barest initial stages and will take many months before reaching the stage where bids for actual blueprints can be submitted, let alone construction plans.
