Twitter has become the favorite medium for jihad propagandists, according to the leading counterterrorist journal Combating Terrorism Center, Fox News reported Tuesday.
The article, called “Tweeting for the Caliphate,” studied the Syrian opposition group Jabhat al-Nusra and its established links to Al Qaeda and concluded, “Twitter has become the main hub for the active dissemination of links guiding users to digital content. These jihadists decided to engage in physical violence after being active within the virtual dominions of al-Qa’ida where exposure to the media had an impact on their personal lives and understanding of religious conduct.”
Al Qaeda web forums also are buying into social media, where they promote their official Twitter accounts. The use of Twitter and other social media prevents the danger of a jihadist being caught by face-to-face contact with recruits.
