Rabin trusted that Clinton would stand behind Israel’s security. Arafat trusted that Clinton he could be flimflammed into forcing Israel to enough concessions that make the end of the Jewish State of Israel a foregone conclusion.
Nearly 25 years later, both Netanyahu and Abbas do not trust President Obama. The president has double-crossed the Prime Minister too many times to be believed. Abbas also knows that he cannot trust Obama to accept all of territorial and political demands lock, stock and barrel.
The two states that Obama has proposed are full of conditions that neither side can accept, and that is what has driven Kerry into such a rage that he had to dump on both sides Saturday.
After stating that Israel fears that Arabs are “teaching hate and glorifying terrorists” and that Arabs “believe their land is being systemically taken away” Kerry declared what he “knows.” He stated:
The Israeli and Palestinian people deserve better but the current path is not leading to a more peaceful future.
It never occurred to him that the “current path” towards violence and hopelessness is the “two-state solution,” which would be a solution only for the Obama administration’s tragic foreign policies and which would pave a high-speed highway for war.
Kerry wagged his finger and warned Israel, not the Palestinian Authority, of the dreaded “one-state solution” whereby Israel would find itself with a Jewish minority.
He stated another outright lie, which he believes is true, when he told the audience:
Nearly all of Area C, which compromises nearly 60 percent of the West Bank is effectively restricted for any Palestinian development. We understand there was only one Palestinian building permit granted for all of Area C for all of last year.
Of course there was only one permit for the simple reason that they don’t need to ask for permits. As a resident of Area C, if I were to build a storeroom without a permit, the government would destroy it without much delay.
I see from my back yard Arab building. Schools and homes sprout up literally every day, largely with the assistance of the European Union and the anarchist International Solidarity Movement.
Kerry’s address, like years of remarks by Obama administration officials, ignored the reality that the “current impasse” has been in existence for 48 years, ever since the Jordanian occupation, which never was legal, of Judea and Samaria.
It ignores the fact that virtually no one in Israel outside of a shrinking and tiny leftist minority wants a Palestinian Authority state. They know it would be an illusion..
It also ignores the fact the Arab people never have jumped on the bandwagon for a Palestinian Authority state. There never have been any mass rallies for it, and they know very well that their lives would only be worse if it ever happened.
The only united front among Arabs has been the terror cells, an inheritance of Yasser Arafat whose successor Abbas preached non-violence in English and encouraged Palestinian Authority schools and media to incite Arabs to murder Jews during the “peace process.”
