Israel’s largest environmental organization has offered its assistance to the U.S. Forest Service following the devastating wildfires in California, the worst such fires in the history of the United States.
The letter of support sent to Chief Vicki Christiansen was signed by Daniel Atar, World Chairman of KKL-JNF (Keren Kayemet L’Israel – Jewish National Fund).
In the past, the U.S. Forest Service has provided assistance to KKL-JNF when there were forest fires in northern Israel, during 2006 and 2010.
The two organizations have maintained a 30-year working relationship that involves sharing knowledge and helping each other whenever necessary.
Following is the text of the letter that was sent:
“Dear Chief Christiansen:
We have been following the situation with the horrific wildfires in California including the unprecedented destruction of communities and the devastation to surrounding forests. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those who have perished. We want to express our solidarity, encouragement and support and offer our assistance if there’s anything we can do to help.
In these difficult times we recall the help the U.S. Forest Service provided to us here in Israel during our most devastating wildfires in Mt. Carmel in 2010 and in the Higher Galilee during the Second Lebanon War in 2006. For example, we recall under the direction of former Chief Dale Bosworth, we were sent personal protective equipment to outfit dozens of firefighters who were working along the Lebanese border. We are so fortunate to have a thirty-year working relationship between our agencies.
I, personally, and all of KKL-JNF also want to take this opportunity to congratulate you on your selection as Chief. We are hearing only accolades about the agency under your leadership. When the opportunity allows, we invite you to visit Israel and the KKL-JNF forests.
Again, we pray for your success in extinguishing these fires quickly and without further casualties.
Sincerely,
דני עטר חתימה
Daniel Atar
KKL-JNF World Chairman”
