Labor MKs have begun to rebel against the LGBT pressure, complaining that they’re starting to feel there’s a checklist they must satisfy to make it to the next Knesset.
One of the more radical requests Labor MKs have received was to pressure the Knesset Chairman MK Yuli Edelstein to oust MK Bezalel Smotrich (Bayit Yehudi) from his position as deputy Knesset Speaker, in view of his statements against the LGBT community. This requirement, which came from the party’s gay activists, did not receive the MKs’ cooperation.
The Zionist Camp responded to this story, insisting “there was no pressure, let alone threats directed at Knesset members to participate in events, post statuses or express any opinion. Unlike other factions, free discussion and expression are a central and fundamental part of the Zionist camp… As is well known, and contrary to many other Knesset members, the Zionist Camp supports the freedom of every individual to choose his or her spouse.”
