Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman has declared the “Iliya Institute” in eastern Jerusalem to be a terrorist organization in accordance with a recommendation made by the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet).

The recommendation came after a month-long investigation that involved surveillance of the group showed the so-called “youth center” was actually a front for the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) terror organization.

The center was being used to recruit and train operatives to disseminate the ideology of the DFLP as well as produce propaganda and incitement videos, according to the Defense Ministry.

“The security establishment led by the Shin Bet intelligence service acts with determination and will uproot any attempt to establish terrorist elements in eastern Jerusalem,” Liberman said in a statement. “We are taking all necessary measures and will not accept an institution that acts an outpost for terrorism in the capital of Israel, united Jerusalem.”
