Susan Crown, a philanthropist and member of the billionaire Crown family, says she has switched sides this election year, after supporting candidate Barack Obama in 2008. She will be bundling big-number donations for candidate Mitt Romney this year, reports The Washington Post.
Many in the Crown family will keep their allegiance to the President. Crown and her husband co-hosted a fundraiser for Romney last year.
Crown said in an interview that she decided to support Romney after Obama spoke in favor of a return to 1967 borders as part of an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal.
“There are a lot of people here who are very disappointed in the president,” said Crown. “Illinois is very important because it’s Barack Obama’s home state and it has a lot of independents. I’m an independent and I’m working as hard as I can for Mitt.”
Susan Crown is Chairperson of the Executive Committee of Illinois Tool Works, a diversified manufacturer of engineered products and specialty systems. She is also Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of Rush University Medical Center, and chaired the Facilities Committee in instituting a $1 billion rebuild of its campus, including Chicago’s first LEED-certified hospital.
