The popular Religious-Zionist newspaper Makor Rishon is in danger of closing after Antitrust Commissioner David Gilo has delayed signing off on Sheldon Adelson’s purchase of the paper.

Editors of the paper wrote in Friday’s edition that they don’t know if the deal is being held up for political reasons, because of their pro-Zionist stance, or bureaucratic, but either way, the paper is out of money, and without the purchase, the paper will close.

There has been a tremendous amount of interest in buying the paper, from many quarters.

Adelson, who also owns Yisrael Hayom, was the highest bidder for the paper, followed by the Jerusalem Post.
