MK Yaakov Peri (Yesh Atid) announced on Wednesday that he is quitting the Knesset.

Recently there have been reports implying that Peri, when he was head of the Shabak (Israel’s Security Agency), was probably the source of the leaks to then Interior Minister Aryeh Deri (Shas) about the ongoing investigation against Deri. Peri also reportedly failed a few polygraph tests during that time.

Ilana Dayan’s Uvda, an investigative TV show, recently published allegations that Peri lied about his IDF service.

Peri said that he is taking a time out from public service due to the heavy shadow the accusations are placing over his credibility and work for the State of Israel, as well as over the Yesh Atid party.

Yair Lapid, the head of the Yesh Atid party, accepted Peri’s resignation.

It appears that the next in line to became an MK on behalf of the Yesh Atid party is Pnina Tamano-Shata.
