Ottawa police on Saturday arrested a teenage boy who is accused of painting swastika and other racist graffiti in local religious communities, CBC News reported. The Ottawa police chief announced the arrest to the Machzikei Hadas Synagogue in south Ottawa, which had been defaced by the boy.
The young man was arraigned on several charges Saturday morning, including making threats and mischief against religious buildings.
According to police, the boy was caught after defacing a Jewish community center in west Ottawa, his sixth attack. Earlier last week he attacked after two synagogues, a Jewish prayer center, a mosque and a church.
Several Canadian political leaders, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne, Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson, and Ontario Attorney General Yasir Naqvi condemned the racist attacks.
