Posters calling on the IDF Chief of Staff to resign were posted around the Kirya IDF military headquarters in Tel Aviv on Saturday.
The posters reflect the anger of many Israelis over the arrest and imprisonment of a soldier who shot and killed a terrorist in Hebron after he was lying on the ground. The terrorist was wearing a bulky, zipped up jacket on an exceptionally warm day — a suspicious-appearing garment to the practiced eye. Many suicide bombers wear similar clothing.
Protesters demonstrating in front of Prison No. 4, where the soldier is incarcerated, contended Saturday night that it was essential to ensure the terrorist was dead, given the circumstances. Many among the demonstrators were IDF veterans and families of veterans and active soldiers.
The posters showed a picture of IDF Lt.-Gen. Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot dressed up as King Ahashuerus of Persia, the main character of the Purim historical tale.
“Eizenkot resign and take Bibi (Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu) and Boogie (Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon) with you. Jewish blood must not be forfeited. Even Ahashuerus allowed the Jews to defend themselves.
“Shame on you!”
Police have opened an investigation into the incident and may charge those behind the posters with incitement against the IDF chief.
