Snow? What snow?
Satmar chassidim pledged $8.5 million during the snowy Sabbath for the sect’s new Boro Park building, which is to include a wedding hall and approximately 70 classrooms when completed, according to the Matzav blog site.
Thousands of Satmar followers from the entire state stormed – pardon the expression – on Boro Park to join Satmar Rabbi Aharon Teitelbaum for prayers and the traditional “tisch,” the Yiddish word for a festive fathering of song, food and Torah study with the rabbi.
Those who donated more than $250,000 had the honor of eating a Sabbath meal with the rabbi, who on Saturday night visited the home of one supporter who pledged half a million dollars.
