The Regavim Movement’s response to the rejection by the High Court of the Amona Agreement:
The High Court of Justice today trampled Israel’s democracy by disregarding the evacuation agreement between the government the Amona residents.
The High Court’s conduct in the Amona affair over the past few years is shocking and outrageous in comparison to its conduct when it comes to petitions filed against illegal Bedouin villages in the Negev, which were built on private Jewish land.
In regard to Amona, the judges weren’t satisfied until the community’s houses were destroyed, but when Regavim filed petitions (in the Negev) when there was no question of Jewish ownership, the High Court refused to align itself with the rightful landowners and failed to set a timetable for the State to order the resettling of the Bedouin illegal squatters.
Today is yet another step in the erosion of the public’s faith in the justice system in Israel.
