Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas Chief Khaled Mashaal have reportedly agreed to an arrangement whereby Abbas would lead the interim unity government for Judea and Samaria and Gaza – replacing Salam Fayyad as prime minister – in the lead-up to general elections.

The agreement was based on a proposal by Qatar’s emir, who is hosting the reconciliation talks.
