Neo-Nazis in Austria, 2016

The Austrian Forum Against Anti-Semitism on Wednesday reported that the number of anti-Semitic incidents in Austria has risen by 82 percent in 2015, compared with 2014. The Forum received 465 reports of incidents in 2015, up from 255 in 2014 and 137 in 2013.

The Forum said that the reported incidents included assaults, racist remarks and Internet postings and threats.

Physical violence against Jews dropped, however, with 2 cases reported in 2015, compared with 9 in 2014. Vienna Jewish community leader Oskar Deutsch said the drop was a result of increased security around Jewish institutions.

The Forum says that it is not clear if the bulk of the incidents were committed by rightwing, leftwing, or Muslim Jew haters. It appears anti-Semitism is nasty in all its many flavors.
