Checking to make that the french word “banlieue” was spelled correctly a BBC article from October popped up. That article took a look at the banlieues ten years after the initial riots. A great deal of money has been invested, and things have only gotten worse.
The Israeli President also calls on Arabs to take some steps. Rivlin calls on them to stop the incitement and the violence against Israel. He pleads to Palestinian Arab youth:
For too many years, blood has been shed like water on this land. No blood is redder than any other. Lives matter. Our lives matter. Your lives matter. I urge Palestinian parents and teachers to foster in their young dreams of life, not aspirations of death. The struggle between our peoples has already seen so much death and bloodshed — more death and bloodshed is not going to solve it.
Finally, Rivlin calls on the United States and the entire international community. Not to impose their plans or views or values on the region, but to nurture “mutual values” and encourage “dialogue and cooperation.” Such steps, Rivlin suggests, will help lay the groundwork for a future resolution.
Calm, baby steps, and support what is deemed necessary by those involved, that sounds like good advice. It’s building sideways in order to, eventually, build up. Let’s see what the American politicians do with it.
