Russia was among the 24 countries who voted in favor of the UNESCO resolution denying Jewish ties to Jerusalem’s holiest Jewish sites — the Temple Mount and the Western Wall.
The resolution refers to both solely by their Muslim names and condemns Israel as the “occupying power” for ‘escalating aggressions and illegal measures against the Awqaf Department.’ It adds a sparse sentence noting the ‘importance of the Old City of Jerusalem and its walls for the three monotheistic faiths, Islam, Christianity and Judaism.’
