Russia’s Foreign Ministry has announced the death of Moscow’s Ambassador to Egypt, Sergei Kirpichenko in a Cairo hospital. He was 68, The Associated Press reported.

The ministry said the career diplomat died suddenly Monday morning in a hospital in the Egyptian capital, but did not reveal the cause of death.

Kirpichenko served as Russia’s envoy to Egypt since 2011, as well as envoy to the Arab League, which is also based in Cairo. His previous posts included the United Arab Emirates, Libya and Syria.
