A somewhat bemused Jewish national political reporter for NBC News this week posted to his Twitter account what may be the first-ever Rosh HaShana greeting from the Embassy of Saudi Arabia to American Jews.
The good wishes for a “happy and sweet New Year” came from the new Saudi Ambassador to the United States, Reema Bandar Al Saud bint Bandar. An additional, sweet little hand-written “Happy Shana Tova” signature was added in the bottom right-hand corner of the card to personalize the greeting.

Saudi Arabia has become closer to Israel and the Jews in recent years as Iran has become a greater threat to the security of its neighbors in the Middle East, including other Arab nations.
