The owners of Tel Aviv’s plush Azrieli Mall are offering gift cards worth 50 shekels ($12.86) in an effort to win back tens of thousands of Israelis who are too terror-stricken to shop. The owners of the mall also operate other shopping centers in the country and are spending millions of dollars to try to boost business. Globes reported.
Offering unconditional gift cards is an unprecedented step and reflects worries that the Israeli economy is becoming a victim of the wave of terrorist attacks that have struck the entire country and in every place, including buses, public markets, bus stations and even malls that have guarded entrances.
Sales in shopping malls have plunged the past several weeks as stabbing attack have become a daily event, often twice or three times a day.
Several major shopping malls have suffered a 60 percent drop in sales, according to Globes.
One owner of a group of malls is launching a sales campaign that offers discounts of up to 50%.
