President Donald Trump offered his support and prayers Tuesday afternoon to the victims and their families targeted by two shooters who wielded “long guns” earlier in the day to kill a police officer and three civilians in a three to four-hour siege that led law enforcement from the Bay View Cemetery to a hostage situation in the JC Kosher Supermarket in the heart of Jersey City, New Jersey.
The president was briefed regularly on the situation; once events resolved, he tweeted his condolences to the families of the deceased, support to the wounded, and reassurances to the rest of the community. He also vowed to continue to monitor the situation and to provide assistance to local authorities as needed.
Just received a briefing on the horrific shootout that took place in Jersey City, NJ. Our thoughts & prayers are w/ the victims & their families during this very difficult & tragic time. We will continue to monitor the situation as we assist local & state officials on the ground.
