British Prime Minister Theresa May has announced her resignation, saying she will step down as Tory leader on June 7, after U.S. President Donald Trump concludes his visit to the UK.

Speaking to the nation in an emotional and sometimes tearful statement Friday morning, the prime minister said she had done her best to deliver Brexit. She said it was a matter of “deep regret” that she was unable to do it.

Her Conservative party will now wrestle over who will lead the country next; the part said it is expected the matter will be resolved by the end of July.
