White Pelicans landing for a pit stop at the Hula Valley nature reserve

Some 3,800 White Pelicans were spotted just before the start of this Rosh HaShana holiday at the Hula Valley Bird Center nature reserve created by the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, where a resting and feeding point is maintained for the birds as a stopover site for them on their migration route.

Some 390 species of birds pass through the area twice a year, according to Keren Kayemet L’Israel (KKL-JNF), which has developed an internationally acclaimed bird watching park in the Hula Valley in the Upper Galilee. A total of more than 500 million birds pass through the area each year.
