David Kashdan, a Russian born mathematician, McArthur fellow, Israel Prize winner and tenured professor at Hebrew University, was run over by a truck on Sunday, in a hit and run accident while riding his bicycle outside the Malcha mall in Jerusalem.

Kashdan’s son, Eli, who was riding with his father, called MDA which took the unconscious professor to the Hadasshah Ein Karem Medical center, where he is being treated at the trauma center.

According to a hospital spokeswoman, Kashdan’s condition is very critical and the doctors are fighting for his life.
