Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has appointed Yigal Unna, 46, to head the National Cyber Bureau. The appointment must still be ratified by the government cabinet.
Unna, who currently heads the Cyber Technologies Unit, has served in a number of different roles in the defense establishment over the years.
“Yigal has vast experience in cyber-related fields and in the defense establishment,” Netanyahu said in making the announcement on Friday. “I am confident his rich experience will contribute a lot.”
Earlier this month, Netanyahu announced the merger of the National Cyber Authority and the National Cyber Bureau into a single agency to oversee the cyber defense of the country. The new body will set policy and build the the country’s cyber defense apparatus, as well as bear responsibility for operations.
