MK Hanin Zoabi (Balad) failed to honor a police summons Monday, saying she was “too busy” to answer a probe about whether her anti-Israel activities of recent weeks constitute incitement.
The incident was reminiscent of a similar incident in 2007. Then, MK Azmi Bishara – Zoabi’s mentor – refused to answer police questions about possible treason following a meeting Bishara allegedly held in Syria with Hezbollah leaders. Bishara left the country rather than submit to police interrogation and has served as an advisor to the government of Qatar ever since.
Significantly, Hanin Zoabi served at the time as an advisor to Mr Bishara.
Responding to Zoabi’s refusal to appear, MK Danny Danon (Likud) said the pro-Hamas MK should be arrested before pulling what Danon called a “Bishara II”.
“In 2007 MK Azmi Bishara was summoned for questioning for which he failed to appear. Two days later he had fled the country.
“Yesterday, MK Hanin Zoabi was summoned in for questioning, but she has (also) refused to report. We must not wait for a ‘Bishara 2’ to take place. Police should issue a warrant for her arrest immediately,” Danon said.
