Palestinian Authority students at Birzeit University near Ramallah attacked a visiting British envoy’s car Tuesday, preventing him from speaking at a symposium on creating a Palestinian Authority state.
British Consul-General Sir Vincent Fean managed to speak with university president Khalil al-Hindi, but when he left his office on campus, students, some of them with metal bars in hand, lunged towards him.
Security guards prevented the attackers from harming Fean. After he managed to get into his car, they attacked the vehicle with the rods, according to an eyewitness reporter for the Bethlehem-based Ma’an news agency.
The vehicle sustained minor damage, including a smashed mirror, as the driver sped away, sparing Fean injury or even worse.
The news agency said the students were protesting Britain’s position towards “the question of Palestine,” which raises the issue of exactly what they want since Britain fully supports PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas demands for establishing a PA capital in Jerusalem and taking over all of the land that was occupied by Jordan before the Six-Day War in 1967.
Perhaps the students want something else – like Tel Aviv?
