Israel’s Defense Ministry on Monday signed a deal for the purchase of advanced and accurate rockets from IMI Systems worth hundreds of millions of shekels. The deal, led by the Ministry’s Administration for the Development of Weapons and Technological Infrastructure (Maf’at), is for the development and acquisition of advanced rocket armament.
According to the Defense Ministry’s announcement, the purchased rockets have a very high precision performance, which greatly improves the IDF’s capabilities and enables precise hits in remote targets, immediate availability, and low mission cost compared with other combat systems.
The new rockets come with advanced technologies that meet the demands of the modern battlefield.
“The acquisition of advanced rockets is a continuation of Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman’s decision to equip the IDF with precision rockets and rockets for a variety of ranges,” the ministry’s statement said.
Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman noted that “the plan to establish a system of precision is already in production mode. Some of it is already being manufactured, some in the late R&D stages. We acquired and are developing accurate firing systems that will enable us to focus and intensify the IDF’s attack system and cover within a few years every point in the region, in short and long ranges.”
IMI Systems Chairman Yitzhak Aharonovitch said in a statement: “The innovative rocket systems that the IDF will acquire in this transaction reflect the technological capabilities of our company, which specializes in developing accurate firepower, with pinpoint accurately against a variety of ground targets.”
