The Israeli AI startup “Run:ai” has been acquired by chipmaker giant Nvidia after winning approval of the transaction from the European Commission.
The $700 million acquisition was closed after the European Commission granted unconditional approval for the buyout.
The Israeli startup, which helps developers optimize infrastructure for artificial intelligence (AI), said in a blog post that it plans to make its software open-source available.
“While Run:ai currently supports only Nvidia GPUs, open sourcing the software will enable it to extend its availability to the entire AI ecosystem,” the company said.
Nvidia commands about 80 percent of the market for AI graphics processing units (GPUs), the chips used in AI-linked tasks.
The US Department of Justice is also reviewing the deal to determine whether it violates antitrust laws, Politico reported in August.
