Guests and participants in sessions of the Knesset Constitution, Law and Justice Committee will be identified at the entrance to the meeting room through a card reader.
Following the new law requiring all lobbyists to identify themselves as they enter Knesset committee debates, Knesset Director-General Ronen Plot has decided to raise the bar and compel all participants and observers of committee hearings to identify themselves by placing the entry permit given to them at the entrance to the Knesset building on a card reader.
The new system was installed at the entrance to the Justice Committee’s meeting room, where it was tested staring Monday. It was installed following requests by the Knesset Protocols Department in order to precisely list the name and position all of the participants in the discussions.
“Any person wishing to enter the deliberations of the Knesset committees will identify himself or herself using their entry permit, and their name will automatically appear in transcripts of the committee meetings,” said Plot, adding, “I am convinced that the move will affect the quality and transparency in discussions and benefit the decision-makers.”
Chairman of the Constitution, Law and Justice Committee, MK Nissan Slomiansky (HaBayit HaYehudi) welcomed the pilot saying in a statement, “It is extremely important for the transparency of those who take part in the deliberations of the committees, certainly in such an active legislative committee as the Knesset Constitution, Law and Justice Committee. I welcome the move and believe it will greatly benefit every Knesset committee.”
Asaf Friedman, manager of the Justice Committee, explained that in the long run the new system will also upgrade the transcripts of the committee meetings.
