Back in September, former President Donald Trump was criticized by many Jews over his suggestion that they must have something wrong in the head if they vote for Kamala Harris, seeing as she was so hostile to Israel.
Many Jews were offended, suggesting Trump broke one of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definitions of antisemitism, namely “Accusing Jewish citizens of being more loyal to Israel, or to the alleged priorities of Jews worldwide, than to the interests of their own nations.” Jews don’t vote only based on Israel’s interests, they argued, they have other concerns as well.
Point taken. But then, on Thursday, former President Barack Obama chided Black voters, noting the absence of “the same kind of energy and turnout as we saw when I was running.”
But wait, Obama wasn’t only being racist, he was sexist, too. Before his campaign speech for Harris in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he said the lack of love for Kamala “seems to be more pronounced with the brothers.” He added, “You’re coming up with all kinds of reasons and excuses. I’ve got a problem with that. Because part of it makes me think, and I’m speaking to men directly … that you just aren’t feeling the idea of having a woman as president, and you’re coming up with other alternatives and other reasons for that.”
Say it ain’t so, Barack, say it ain’t so…
Why is Obama losing his cool? Recent surveys suggest that former President Trump is gaining slightly more support from Black men compared to the 2020 election. Additionally, although a greater number of Black voters are supporting Harris, her approval ratings are trailing behind those of Biden from the previous election.
There’s another serious problem. Back in 2016, Hillary Clinton, much like Kamala Harris today, was leading Trump in the national polls, but never by more than the margin of error. She looked like she was the leader, which is why her loss came as such a shock to the entire world, Trump included, but in reality, those who understand how the Electoral College works were not surprised.
Totaling 535 electors from the 50 states, the Electoral College is biased against the big states, which is why several Republican presidents have won elections despite losing the popular vote. Kamala will receive California’s 55 electors and NY’s 28 whether she wins 80% or only 51% of the votes in those two very blue and very big states. So that when pollsters count the votes there, they may reflect the national mood and the popular vote, but they do not reflect who will win the presidency.
Victory will depend on the purple states, a.k.a. the swing states, battleground states, or toss-up states. This election season they are Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and possibly New Hampshire which, even though it is geographically part of the big blue northeast, it has an unusually large number of independent voters.
And Obama knows that if the Brothers won’t come out and vote for Kamala in Georgia, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, the Dems might as well start painting the White House gold.
Harris has the broad support of the Black voters, but among Black males, Trump enjoys a 21% contingency (only 11% among Black women). Also – 22% of Black voters ages 18-44 prefer Trump.
Obama told the crowd in Pittsburgh on Thursday, “This election is going to be tight because there are a lot of Americans who are still struggling out there. I get it why people are looking to shake things up. I mean, I am the hope-y, change-y guy. So, I understand people feeling frustrated. We can do better. What I cannot understand is why anybody would think that Donald Trump will shake things up in a way that is good for you. The good news is, Kamala Harris – she doesn’t have concepts for a plan. She has an actual plan to make your life better.”
Obama was making fun of Trump who devoted so much time and resources during his administration to kill Obamacare, but when confronted this year about his alternative plan admitted he only had a concept of one.
And you probably thought the conceptzia was an Israeli thing…
