The only power plant in the Gaza Strip stopped working Saturday night, exacerbating the electricity crisis in the Gaza Strip, Ma’an reported.
The electricity distribution company attributed the halt in operations to the fact that fuel trucks have not been able to enter from the Egyptian side of the border.
Service will be limited to four daily hours as a result of the plant’s shutting down. The only available service at this point is being provided by the Israel Electric Company, which continues to provide 120 megawatts out of the Gaza Strip’s overall need of 500 megawatts.
Gaza Strip Arabs have been waiting since Friday for the Rafah crossing to open as promised. The Egyptian authorities had announced they would open the crossing for two days, but kept it open for only part of one day, letting 690 Gazans leave for Egypt and 86 return.
