The IDF early Monday attacked for the second night in a row a target east of the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, in response to rocket fire Sunday night that exploded in an open area in the Sha’ar Hanegev Regional Council.

According to the IDF Spokesperson’s announcement, Air Force fighter jets attacked an “underground infrastructure” in the southern Gaza Strip. The statement added that “the IDF will continue to act in order to ensure security for the citizens of Israel, by all means at its disposal,” and that “Hamas is responsible for everything happening in and out of the Gaza Strip, above and below ground.”

The Color Red alert was activated in the area of the Council and in the city of Sderot when the rocket had been launched Sunday night. There were no casualties on the Israeli side and no damage to property as a result of the launch, which took place one day after a rocket had hit the roof of a house in Kibbutz Shaar Hanegev Saturday night. The building was damaged but there were no casualties.
