The Israel Defense Force retaliated in Gaza on Saturday in response to a barrage of rockets aimed at southern Israel overnight, and the particularly intense violent attacks Friday on IDF soldiers and the security fence at Israel’s southern border.
IDF aircraft and tanks attacked a number of military targets and positions belonging to Gaza’s ruling Hamas terrorist organization in the northern part of the enclave.
Red Alert incoming rocket warning sirens activated in three communities – Sderot, Ibim and Kibbutz Or HaNer – but it was in Sderot that at least one rocket exploded, igniting a large fire in an “open area” of the city. Two women in Sderot were treated for trauma-related shock following the attack.
According to a statement by the IDF, five projectiles were fired at Israeli territory. It’s not clear where in Israel the other four rockets landed, and the IDF made no further reference to their destinations.
