The Israeli Air Force Thursday night attacked the Gaza Strip in response to three rocket launches Wednesday into Israeli territory. An Army spokesperson issued a statement saying, “The IDF attacked using air force fighter jets a central terrorist infrastructure in the Gaza Strip. The IDF will continue to take all the measures at its disposal above and below ground to thwart attempts to harm the residents of the State of Israel.”
Three launchings were identified Wednesday in Eshkol Regional Council which borders the Gaza Strip, and, by evening, one rocket was located. There were no casualties and no damage was done. A red alarm sounded only after the third launch. Despite reports of a fourth rocket, the IDF and the Eshkol Regional Council said they were not aware of it.
According to Ha’aretz, Gadi Yarkoni, head of the Eshkol Regional Council, asked the political echelon to respond in a manner that “will restore deterrence but won’t lead to an unnecessary escalation.”
“We have prepared for a shooting attack in our direction after the discovery of the terror tunnel, the construction of the tunnel barrier and the Trump declaration,” Yarkoni said. “We continue our routine and there is no change in the guidelines.”
