Israeli Navy personnel opened fire Sunday at Palestinian Authority Arabs who were allegedly fishing off the coast of Gaza, when the vessel left the designated fishing zone.

The other two suspects who were in the boat were arrested and are being questioned, the IDF said in a statement.

“The suspicious ship left the fishing zone off the northern Gaza Strip with three suspects in it,” an IDF spokesperson said.

“In response, the IDF troops conducted the arrest protocol which included calls [to the suspects telling them to halt], warning shots in the air, and shots at the vessel itself.

“As a result of the gunfire, one of the suspects was seriously injured and later died of his wounds.”

An investigation into the incident has been launched, according to the IDF.
