A trail of smoke is seen as a rocket is launched from the Gaza Strip towards Ashkelon, August 24, 2014.

Unidentified Gaza terrorists fired rockets at southern Israelis in the wee hours of Monday morning, while parents and children were asleep in their beds.

The Red Alert incoming rocket alarm siren yanked the families from their beds across the region, many of them exhausted after having remained on alert or having actually chased down arson kites and balloons launched from across the border earlier in the day on Sunday.

Unconfirmed reports from local sources said at least one of the rockets appeared to have been intercepted by the Iron Dome anti-missile defense system, but the Israeli military later said two rockets landed within Israeli territory. A third rocket didn’t clear the border and landed within Gaza territory, according to the IDF.

No details about injuries and/or property damage were immediately available.
