A Gaza citizen – apparently armed – was captured Tuesday morning by IDF soldiers after he breached Israel’s border through the security fence near southern Gaza.

The soldiers picked him up a few minutes after he was spotted, when he had already entered Israeli territory.

A knife was found on the ground near the point of entry, according to the IDF.

“Security forces who interrogated the suspect said … he indicated that his intention was to be caught and move to Israel,” said the IDF Spokesperson. “During his interrogation he admitted that he had thrown a knife to the ground before he was caught.

“The knife was spotted by our forces. The suspect will be returned to Gaza,” the IDF Spokesperson added.

In many cases, Palestinian Authority and Gaza Arabs bring along knives or other weapons in their attempts to be arrested, hoping to receive a longer prison term in Israel.
