The Hamas Interior Ministry on Saturday evening announced that security forces are planning to crack down against Gaza Arabs suspected of collaborating with Israel, Ma’an reported Saturday.
A spokesman for the ministry said in a statement that Hamas would start a crackdown on all “traitors” as part of the ongoing effort to uncover the killers of Mazen Fuqaha, a Hamas commander who was shot dead in front of his home in Gaza City last week, which Hamas claims was an Israeli assassination.
According to Ma’an Hamas has been unable to offer evidence to support the assassination theory. Meanwhile, Gaza’s attorney general has issued a gag order on news reports about the ongoing investigation.
Collaboration with Israel is punishable by death in both Gaza and the Palestinian Authority. Several accused collaborators have been executed in Gaza in recent years.
