Heavy machine gunfire struck the southern Israeli city of Sderot on Monday night within seconds after the Red Alert incoming rocket siren was triggered in the community, and throughout the surrounding Sha’ar HaNegev Regional Council district.
A number of buildings, vehicles and yards in Sderot were hit by the flying bullets, according to municipal spokesperson Yaron Sasson. The gunfire emanated from the Gaza Strip, the IDF said.
Miraculously, no one was physically injured.
This is the second time in less than a month that Sderot was struck by heavy machine gunfire from Gaza. Two weeks ago, terrorists opened fire — allegedly at an Israel Air Force aircraft — but instead struck six homes in Sderot.
It is likely the weapon that was used in Monday night’s attack was provided by Iran; a spokesperson for the Al Qassam Brigades of Hamas has said that Iran has been generous in its donation of weapons to Gaza’s ruling terrorist organization.
