The IDF this weekend located and destroyed a Hamas tunnel that began in the Gaza Strip and entered Israeli territory, the IDF Spokesperson announced Sunday. The tunnel is located near an area where Arab demonstrations have been taking place in recent weeks.
According to the announcement, the full length of the tunnel is many kilometers, and the military intelligence estimates it is part of a wider network of tunnels. It’s the fifth terror tunnel recently uncovered.
The IDF was prepared for the possibility that Hamas would use the tunnel to carry out an attack behind the cover of the demonstrations.
The army destroyed the tunnel by flooding it with concrete that made it permanently unusable and prevents its rehabilitation.
Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman described it as the longest and deepest terror tunnel exposed so far.
