An IDF force on the night between Monday and Tuesday fired on the headquarters of the Palestinian Authority’s Preventive Security Service in Shechem. The IDF Spokesperson’s Office said that exchanges of fire had developed during an IDF operation to arrest terrorist operatives, and the PA gunmen were identified as suspects. Later, it became clear that these were PA personnel. According to the spokesperson, two PA men were lightly injured. and the incident will be investigated.

According to Ma’an, the armed clash took place at 2 AM Tuesday and lasted an hour after Preventive Security officials suspected an Israeli car that was parked near their headquarters.

A source told Ma’an said that when the security forces tried to approach the suspicious vehicle, they ended up opening fire on it, at which point large IDF forces opened fire on the headquarters, which led to an armed clash which lasted more than an hour, wounding two members of the security services.

The PA governor of Shechem, Major General Ibrahim Ramadan, said that the Israeli forces fired at the headquarters of the Preventive Security Service from three sides, targeting three floors of the building. The governor cautioned that the incident constitutes a dangerous precedent, the first of its kind.

“We rejected an Israeli proposal to set up a joint Israeli-Palestinian commission of inquiry in the past, so this position is clear,” Ramadan said.
