Jerusalem’s police dispersed a gathering of Arab businessmen held at the Ambassador Hotel in eastern Jerusalem on Sunday night, an event apparently held under the auspices of the Palestinian Authority.
The event was shut down in accordance with an order signed by Minister of Public Security Omer Barlev. According to the order, the incident took place in violation of a law prohibiting Palestinian Authority operations in Israeli territory.
The PA’s official WAFA news agency reported that “Israeli intelligence officers stormed one of the hotels in Jerusalem and prevented Palestinian businessmen from holding the event.”
The PA’s actions in Jerusalem contravene Israeli laws meant to limit the PA’s presence in its capital.
In recent years, Israel has been promoting legal action against elements working to help the PA advance its objective in Jerusalem, including those involved in financing or hosting PA events in the city.
