A Shabak operation in conjunction with the IDF, has led to the capture this week of Islam Yusuf Abu Hamid, 32, a resident of the Am’ari refugee camp in Ramallah, who on May 24 threw a slab of marble that hit IDF Duvdevan special force soldier Ronen Lubarsky in the head, injuring him critically and eventually leading to his death, the Shabak revealed Wednesday morning.
During his Shabak interrogation it became clear that Islam was the one who had thrown the slab of marble from a rooftop at the late Lubarsky.
Islam’s brothers are Hamas terrorists who have carried out a variety of attacks in the past, including the killing of Israelis, among them Shabak coordinator Noam Cohen.
The suspect’s interrogation continues, and a gag order prohibits reporting additional details in this case.
Prime Minister Netanyahu comments on the capture of the terrorist, “Several weeks ago an IDF Duvdevan unit fighter was wounded and killed. During the mourning period, we promised that we would find the terrorist who killed the late Ronen Lubarsky. Today I would like to praise the IDF and the ISA for a very impressive intelligence-operational operation. It was a Duvdevan fighter who was killed, and it was the Duvdevan unit that apprehended the terrorist. We will continue to deal with whoever tries to attack, and attacks, Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers, to the fullest extent of the law.”
