After publishing an op-ed by convicted arch-terrorist Marwan Barghouti, the NY Times (and obviously Barghouti) omitted any context as to why Barghouti is in jail, specifically for five counts of murder, attempted murder, and as head of the Tanzim, a major terrorist organization that sent out suicide bombers to kill dozens of people.
Following the public outcry at their very obvious omission, the NY Times added an “Editor’s Note” to the bottom of the article.
“Editors’ Note: April 17, 2017
This article explained the writer’s prison sentence but neglected to provide sufficient context by stating the offenses of which he was convicted. They were five counts of murder and membership in a terrorist organization. Mr. Barghouti declined to offer a defense at his trial and refused to recognize the Israeli court’s jurisdiction and legitimacy.”
That the NY Times chose to not disclose this critical piece of information from the very beginning is very problematic.
