Maja Kocijancic, spokesperson for the European External Action Service (EEAS), the diplomatic service and combined foreign and defense ministry of the European Union, on Sunday tweeted a statement on the latest escalation around Gaza saying:

“The last few days have seen the firing of more than a dozen rockets from Gaza into Southern Israel by Palestinian armed groups.

“The firing of rockets against civilian populations is unacceptable and must stop immediately and unconditionally. The priority should be to work on immediate de-escalation to protect civilian lives.

“Israelis and Palestinians both have the right to live in peace, security and dignity. Only a political solution can put an end to the violence.”

So, the EU’s takeaway from the unprovoked attack by Palestinian terrorists on Israeli civilians is that the terrorists must be given their own state.

Incidentally, only last May, a spokesperson for the European Union’s then foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini issued a statement saying: “The rocket fire from Gaza towards Israel must stop immediately. A de-escalation of this dangerous situation is urgently needed to ensure that civilians’ lives are protected.”

The spokesperson then added the inevitable takeaway: “Israelis and Palestinians both have the right to live in peace, security and dignity. Only a political solution can put an end to the violence. Efforts by Egypt and the UN to calm the situation have the European Union’s full support.”

The unavoidable question is: will there be a time, in the faraway future, in which the EU will condemn another Gazan terror attack on innocent Israeli civilians and suggest a different solution, possibly police action to remove the terrorists who currently rule the Gaza Strip?
