Israeli actress Gal Gadot created controversy for Lebanese designer Elie Saab this past week when she wore a dress from his collection at an awards ceremony in New York.
But a much bigger storm was whipped up when an image of the actress wearing the dress appeared on Saab’s Instagram page with a description of her as “flawless” in his ‘Ready-to-Wear Spring Summer 2018′ collection.
Gadot, 32, appeared at the National Board of Review Awards Gala last Tuesday in a blue sash creation by the designer, who now lives in Switzerland. She and director Patty Jenkins received the Spotlight Award for their work together on the 2017 blockbuster film, Wonder Woman.
A storm of protests and hysteria over Gadot’s appearance on Saab’s Instagram page wearing his creation soon followed — leading within hours to the removal of the image.
Gadot was crowned Miss Israel prior to serving as a combat trainer during her mandatory two-year military tour in the Israel Defense Forces. She began her acting career after completing her military service.
The film ‘Wonder Woman’ was banned in Lebanon due to the Israeli actress starring in the lead role; Lebanon and Israel are officially still at war.
